first blog: part I

October 16, 2006

I’ve been living in this world for 29 years. I’ve been at odds with how it is run ever since I can remember. I’ve always been opposed to the popular opinion that money is more important than anything else; I think that’s absolutely ridiculous. Money is an abstraction of other things that are far more important like feeding your family, having your own living space, clothing, etc. These are the things that really motivate us, not money as an end in itself. I firmly believe that much of the wrong done in this world is caused by the fact that society as a whole has adopted a process of making all decisions on the basis of cost-benefit analysis. This is the central paradigm of our time that desperately needs to shift. Corporations need to be more heavily regulated with regard to their impact on the public sphere. International laws that put society’s collective needs before those of shareholders need to be established and enforced.
